Geek Girl Brunch: First Time Go

Hello dearest friends!
I hope this post finds you well!

On Sunday, I mentioned that I attended my first Geek Girl Brunch with my new chapter here in North Carolina and today I wanted to share that experience with you guys and gals!

I originally started with the first European chapter of Geek Girl Brunch in Kaiserslautern, Germany. I made some good friends there and was really sad to leave them behind. They promised me that I would find a good chapter once I returned Stateside and I definitely hoped to believe them. I adore the concept behind Geek Girl Brunch, a way for geeky girls to get together with like minded ladies and talk about our favorite things! We bond over our geeky interests and can sometimes make friends for life!

Sunday was my first brunch with this new chapter and it was great. I had to drive to Raleigh (about an hour away) to meet the ladies for breakfast. It was a nice little café in a familiar little area of the large city. I arrived early (partially because I expected more traffic and it really is engrained in me to be early) and waited in my car to see some people arrive. While I had no idea what the ladies looked like, I knew that it wouldn't be hard to spot each other. I was correct in that thinking because I saw Kathryn across the parking lot carrying some stuff in her hands wearing a Star Wars themed cardigan, so I followed her inside. She was nice enough to already know my name and introduced herself. We chatted while we waited for everyone else to arrive and then brunch kicked off.

There was a group of 6 of us together, and most of us wore Star Wars related shirts or jackets, which was kind of awesome in my head. These ladies were super nice and welcoming and I really liked them.

Kathryn was super cool and made us some stuff. She gave everyone some Aldearn Dust in an ornament as well as a cute little patch type thing made from fabric. I even got an extra one for Memphis since he was bummed that he couldn't go to this brunch himself.

Claire, who is super adorable by the way, showed up in a handmade little jedi dress that was just super adorable, and she brought us all some coloring books and a key chain, all Star Wars themed! Claire is the girl sitting directly to my left in the group picture.

Overall, it was a great couple of hours. I found some new friends, a new artist to follow, and some new shows to watch and manga to read. I really can't wait until next month's brunch!

If you're interested in Geek Girl Brunch make sure to visit their website and find a chapter near you. They have Facebook pages to connect with and other social media. It's definitely worth it if you're looking for a local group of geeky girls like I was. It was a little bit harder for me since I live in a military town.

"I Love" Sunday's v.58

Hello friends
Happy Sunday!!

** Tuesday was a big day for me. The Golden Snitch Giveaway hosted by Kimi from KimiWho went live! I am a sponsor for the giveaway and her blog. I have gotten to know her over the course of this month through her blog and through email exchanges.... she is AWESOME! And super sweet! Each month she is hosting a geek related giveaway. Make sure to check it out! You can also check it out my post that went live on Wednesday!

** Tuesday was also my first day at my new job! I am now a barista at Starbucks here in Fayetteville. I am pretty stoked about it because I love the people I work with already!!! I get to wear an apron that says I am an Army Veteran with a flag, I get a book to read if I want too, and lots of benefits that I didn't know existed for a company like this.

** My roommate and I started going to the gym after dropping Memphis off at school. Right now, all we're doing is spending at least 30 minutes on the treadmill, but it's definitely a good start considering I haven't worked out since March or April of last year. I'm hoping that it will help both of us with our productivity during the days (instead of just coming back home to go back to sleep).

** Friday was fun. Amy and I went out with some of the EMT's at her hospital for dinner and then we ended up at our favorite country bar. I made a couple of new friends, taught some ladies how to two step, and just had a great time. It started off slow (no one really wanted to talk to me at first) and they wanted to let me talk to my roommate (they said I needed to make my own friends), but eventually we started talking and hit it off.

** Earlier today I made the drive to Raleigh to meet my new chapter of Geek Girl Brunch. Today's brunch was Star Wars themed and we had a blast. I made 5 new geeky girlfriends and I can't wait to see them again at our next brunch! I am waiting to get the group picture, but here are some goodies that I went home with!

"I Love" Sunday's v.55

Hello dearest friends!
Happy Sunday

It's been a super busy week (as mentioned on Friday)

** I got my 2016 Travelers Notebook all set up and am loving it. I'll do a walkthrough of the set-up sometime this week for anyone who is interested, but just to let you guys know.... I have my January plan book surrounded by a Midori pocket, my December Daily 2015 (I am trying to get it all finished. Almost done!!!), The business card folder, my blog book, and my 2016 yearly planner. I am still using the custom designed Harry Potter MyDorian made by AltGuild on Etsy. The review for this product will be up later this week!

** I picked up the key to my new apartment on Thursday. I finally have my own place. Right now, the only thing in there is my new tv stand (which I think is made from real wood instead of the fake stuff and is heavier then I expected when I went to pick it up). This weekend I have been moving some of my stuff from my roommate's place to my new one (It's just a couple buildings over from where I've been staying). I can't really move in yet because my stuff is either on it's way from Germany or still in storage in Florida. I still have to get my utilities all set up, but at least there is a place

** My truck has arrived from Germany! I picked it up on Friday from Charleston, SC and I am beyond excited!!!! I have my car back! I asked my roommate if it would be odd if I hugged my car, she laughed at me!

I sent this picture to my friend when we were talking about how excited I was to have my car back

** I hung out with a new friend Friday night. She is a cashier at Staples and we met when I went to go pick up a new White Signo gel pen for my memory keeping stuff. We bonded over my new Harry Potter necklace (it says "Books turn mugs into wizards) and my Star Wars long sleeve shirt (It's black with Darth Vader on the front, Star Wars written on the side of the two sleeves, and The Dark Side written on the back like a jersey). We went to 2nd and Charles and looked through all of their "nerd stuff" before walking around the mall.

I sent this picture to my roommate's son Mem from 2nd and Charles.
He loves the tv show Friends and we've been binge watching the show on Netflix
** I went and applied at a bunch of place. I've been calling or walking in and asking the status of my application. The lady at Starbucks asked me some questions and gave me her card, saying if I haven't heard from her by tomorrow, to give her a call. 2nd and Charles also took my information to pass to the manager (they're owned by Books-A-Million and the cashier said that it takes forever for them to get applications), and told me that me coming in and asking was a good thing and that's how she got her job. It gives me hope that I might get a job here soon.

** I sent in an application to Kellie Winnell for her 2016 Creative Team Call. This is my first time applying, although I've been considering it for a little while. I'm hoping to get a position, but it wouldn't surprise me if I didn't. Only because there are some AMAZING and talented ladies in the scrapbooking world and I am just a beginner. Gotta start somewhere though!

** So last night I went to my favorite country bar to apply (they said they were hiring). However, the manager on the phone told me the wrong time to show up and I have to come back Wednesday night (kinda annoyed about that... but whatever). The good news is.... I made friends with 3 new couples! Two of the couples were standing outside when we were waiting for the bar to open (Cat and Mike and Michi and Chris). We started chatting (Michi loved me simply because I told her that I was originally from Texas and lived in Florida) and became friends over several rounds of pool. The last couple I befriended (Jess & Aaron) decided to play couple vs couple with one of the first couples, so we ended up talking. Jess was a BLAST! She was more then willing to teach me some of the line dances that I didn't know and we've agreed to meet up there more often so I can learn more of the dances. Overall, it turned into a great night and I am really glad I stayed despite being there by myself!

** This may be proving me as a total nerd, but I am really happy to have access to cable again. For one single reason... HGTV! I spend way too much time watching HGTV shows while multitasking. My favorite shows from HGTV are Fixer Upper, Property Brothers, and Design on A Dime. ((Bonus: all three shows are also on Netflix!))

Geek Girl Brunch: Initial Meet-up

Hello friends!

Three posts in one week, what's up with that? Go Me!

So, a couple of weeks ago I finally joined my local chapter of Geek Girl Brunch- the Kaiserslautern (K-town for short) chapter is the only one here in Germany and it's a little over a 3 hour drive from where I live. I was pretty excited after talking with one of the organizers for like two days prior. She was super awesome about talking with me and was super friendly.

Cree from We ate. We loved. We traveled. is probably one of the coolest people that I have ever met! She was super helpful with any questions I had. She gave me her number for when I got into town so I could meet up with her. We were originally supposed to meet at a venue for a themed brunch but due to spacing issues, we ended up just meeting at the local Base Exchange on Ramstein Air Base and just talking.

I got there early (hazards of driving there often, what I think will be a 4 hour drive turns out to only be like 3 hours and 20 minutes) so I had time to pick up some tea from Starbucks and a bottle of HoneyWine Met (pronouced meade). Thankfully Cree recognized me because I was a little unsure if it was her at first, but she was so friendly that my nervousness about meeting her and the other Geek Girls was quickly squashed. We put together a couple of tables and all sat around. We introduced ourselves first and then we started talking amongst ourselves. I was sitting between a couple of awesome girls that I was very happy to meet.

Overall- I was just ecstatic to meet girls like myself, especially within the military community. We all like a bunch of different things (table top games, video games, tv shows, anime, things like that), some of us have quite a lot of tattoos, and most of us all like to craft of some type (or cook- which is just as awesome). After the meeting officially ended (most ladies had to get back home to their children and families), a couple of us walked around the mall part and talked a little.

I've been told that I now have a couple of places to stay next time I come for a brunch (which is totally awesome), Cree herself just told me that she was gonna have to make me lunch next time I visit solely because I told her I've never had hummus before, and I got some new Facebook friends out of it! I also have two people that want to set up photography sessions with me.

It'll be nice to have more friends here. It sucks that they all live so far away though. That seems to be the story of my life here in Germany though. All the people I'm close to live at least an hour away.

I totally meant to take some pictures, even just with my phone, and I completely forgot!

I look forward to the next Geek Girl Brunch that I can attend!
